Gaynor Hartvigsen works as a professional artist and visual art tutor living in rural South Australia. She studied Painting and Concept Development with Chris Orchard at Adelaide Central School of Art.  Her art practice ranges from contemporary landscape and conceptual painting to sculptural assemblages utilising found and recycled materials.

Gaynor’s work is inspired by the natural environment, our relationship with the land and the use of its resources. She has had a long association with the Coorong and Lower Lakes, where the effects of human activities and changing climate have impacted severely on the vulnerable ecosystem. Using expressive images of these landscapes created in mixed media, textural layers and found materials, her paintings investigate our spiritual connection with country as well as recording the indications of human presence. They are a celebration of the beauty, fragility and resilience of the natural world.

Gaynor’s work has been exhibited in numerous regional and metropolitan centres, including Dridan Fine Arts - McLaren Vale, Barry Newton Gallery - Unley, Adelaide Festival Centre “State of the Art”, Hill-Smith Gallery - Adelaide, Hahndorf Academy, Kensington Gallery - Norwood, The National Wine Centre Art Space - Adelaide, South Coast Regional Arts Centre - Goolwa, Port Pirie Regional Gallery, Cattanach Gallery - Broome, The New Land Gallery - Pt Adelaide , The Fleurieu Art Prize Art and Environment Exhibition - McLaren Vale , Signal Point Gallery - Goolwa and the Barossa Regional Gallery.
