Chris Ryan
Having spent my youth in the country, both in southern Spain, where I was born and South Australia, my work is inspired by the natural world. I started blacksmithing in Germany in 1994 and trained both as an artist Blacksmith and Farrier.
In my sculptures I integrate old blacksmithing joining methods, such as collers, rivets and mortise and tenons to create simple joins. By heating and forging every piece of metal I endeavour to forge the straight lines of my raw material into natural flowing and tapered lines found in our natural environment.
