Please join us as we welcome our newest artists Suellen Saidee Cook to Artworx Gallery in Goolwa.
Steve and Belinda met and fell in love with Suellen and her photographic art when visiting the Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart, Tasmania this year. Suellen was the artist in residence with an exhibition showcasing her incredible Tree House Series of Artwork.
Suellen visited us here at Artworx Gallery in Goolwa during her travels through South Australia taking thousands of photographs for her next photographic art series.
After wonderful discussions, Suellen accepted our invitation to be represented here in Goolwa at Artworx Gallery and we are thrilled to have her artwork framed and hung in the main gallery within our Xmas Rolling Exhibition - available now!

Suellen writes about this artwork ‘Boardroom’ … “brings back memories of long hot summers at the beach. Every year we would go to the beach during our Christmas holidays. Sometimes my father would rent a shack, other years we would all crowd into a big square tent and camp in the dunes, others we would rough it, living out of the back of the station wagon. Some years it was just us, others we would meet up with other families and be our own tribe. But every year it would be sun, sea, sand and salt. Thongs and bathers were the main attire, sandpits, sand castles, barbeques and riding the waves. We would wait impatiently for the waves to build with the sea breeze. Mum would be reading her book in the deckchair with one eye on us to make sure we stayed safe. At the end of the day, our boards stuck into the sand to wait for the next day’s surfing. The smell of the sea, the sand and too much sun on our bodies, salty hair, mum telling us to wipe our feet and sit on our towels….If only we could live at the beach, always.
All elements of the image are photographic in origin and don’t necessarily appear in reality as depicted. I have drawn upon my childhood, interpreting my imagination and memories of life at the beach drawing the viewer in to take a walk through the image and imagine being there. What does it feel like, what can you smell, what do you see, what is there to discover, what do you remember…to experience for yourself and believe the unbelievable.”
